I enjoyed this book! I have been slowly working my way through this series over the past couple of years so I was eager to pick up this installment. With Kevin’s rapidly-growing popularity with Zeke’s online audience, the loan shark decided that there would be more money for him and a faster payoff of Kevin’s debt if the college student pleasured more than one man at a time.Īfter an exhausting session in which Kevin was tied up, suspended from the ceiling, and was the play toy for ten different men, Zeke has informed him that his next session is to be with a smaller group. Having initially been forced into loan shark Zeke’s “alternative” payment plan of gay sex and BDSM to pay off his brother’s violent drug dealer, straight college student Kevin has finally come to grips with the realization that he is strangely turned-on by the sexual submission and humiliation that Zeke has introduced him to. But Now Things Are Going To Be Taken To A Whole New Level Where Pain And Pleasure Will Compete To Drive Kevin To His Limits! Kevin Has Come To Accept That He's Oddly Aroused By Submitting To The Humiliating Homosexual Acts That Zeke And His Colleagues Have Introduced Him To. His debut teen novel, Be More Chill, was selected for the Today Show Book Club by Judy Blume. At seventeen, he was asked to write a piece for the New York Times Magazine, and at nineteen, he published Teen Angst? Naaah., his autobiography of his years at Stuyvesant High School. No complex human emotions or tension whatsoever. Even the transition from "this is just a sex thing" to "let's be boyfriends" was pretty uneventful. The story was a succession of pretty similar encounters until the point where he two MCs conveniently fall in love at the same time no real hurdles or issues (the dad "hurdle" felt pretty fake and artificial). The dialogue was pretty much "you're so bossy" and "you're so hot" over and over (I'm exaggerating but it felt that way). Michael was way too sweet and naive for a cutthroat real estate exec Bryce had too little damage or darkness for someone who grew up without a mom (and with an absentee dad). The MCs were too perfect and cookie cutter for me. I found the story pretty boring, with no real stakes, not much world building or character development - or anything to really keep my interest. It started well but the story or characters did not grab me at all. In works of radical nonfiction like A Confession The Kingdom of God Is Within You, “The Law of Violence and the Law of Love,” and What Is Art? Tolstoy solidified his reputation as much more than a towering literary figure. From as early as the 1880s, the home estate of the author became a beacon for the entire world, as the prophetic force of Tolstoy’s personality compelled him to stand up for justice and promote nonviolence, social and economic equality, and a new type of art. War and Peace, Anna Karenina, The Cossacks, The Death of Ivan Ilyich, The Kreutzer Sonata, and many other famous texts garnered Tolstoy the admiration of readers well beyond Russia. Born in Yasnaya Polyana on 9 September 1828 (28 August, Old Style) to Count Tolstoy and Princess Volkonsky, he lived a long, eventful life and became the father of a large family. Count Leo Tolstoy (Lev Nikolaevich Tolstoy) is one of the greatest writers of all time. This is an epic war between good and evil, a gory, glorious story that will thrill the millions of hyper-devoted fans of THE SHINING and wildly satisfy anyone new to the territory of this icon in the King canon. Aided by a prescient cat, he becomes "Doctor Sleep." Then Dan meets the evanescent Abra Stone, and it is her spectacular gift, the brightest shining ever seen, that reignites Dan's own demons and summons him to a battle for Abra's soul and survival. Finally, he settles in a New Hampshire town, an AA community that sustains him, and a job at a nursing home where his remnant "shining" power provides the crucial final comfort to the dying. Haunted by the inhabitants of the Overlook Hotel where he spent one horrific childhood year, Dan has been drifting for decades, desperate to shed his father's legacy of despair, alcoholism, and violence. But as Dan Torrance knows, and spunky twelve-year-old Abra Stone learns, The True Knot are quasi-immortal, living off the "steam" that children with the "shining" produce when they are slowly tortured to death. They look harmless - mostly old, lots of polyester, and married to their RVs. On highways across America, a tribe of people called The True Knot travel in search of sustenance. Chinelo the veil on homosexuality with her story telling and opened a new perspective to religion while still describing sexual intimacy with such graphic detail that it will make you blush, expertly straddling the line between spirituality and sexuality. It’s a story of a shy young girl coming into her own, a story of humans becoming unfeeling to death and destruction and how grief can turn people into unrecognizable versions of themselves.Ĭhinelo is bold and not afraid to poke at the things we would pretend don’t exist and want to shy away from. In this brilliant novel, Chinelo Okparanta manages to take on the horror of the Nigerian civil war and like Adichie in Half of a yellow sun she focuses on people whose lives were changed by the war rather than on the war itself. Under the Udala Trees is a coming of age story like no other, one that shocks us, scares us, tugs at our heart strings and lifts the veil on a lot of the issues we pretend to forget. Margot’s lips, pouty from last year’s lip injections, were set in a glossy purple smile that matched the Nike swoosh on her little-used cross-trainers. There wasn’t half an inch between Serena and Margot, squared off chest to chest. They’re firm! Serena said, and stamped her foot. Anyhow, Elle had a more pressing concern. Wyatt Woods, known among the nip and tuck crowd as the Best for Breasts, had done Serena’s work. Elle refused to get involved, because her father, the trendy Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr. Both Underdog and Elle had heard Serena and Margot’s argument countless times before. They’re also blocking the only natural light in this room, Elle whispered to Underdog, who looked up sympathetically. So what if they’ll never sag, Margot said, unimpressed. My boobs are as perky as the day I put them on my credit card! She sat on a pink-skirted stool with faux fur trim that matched the comforter on her bed, where her Chihuahua, Underdog, was comfortably resting.Īt least mine won’t sag! Serena pointed to her saline-enhanced chest. Elle Woods glanced at the reflections of her bickering sorority sisters Margot and Serena in her vanity mirror. Much like the "sweet 15" traditional quinceañera party Destiny "Dusty" is trying to negotiate, this book is full of some Spanish cultural history, surprises and fun. As someone who likes to think of himself as a sophisticated adult reader, YA fiction, like Sweet 15, can be a quick snack gobbled up in one or two settings, yet provide enough depth to nourish a reader's appetite. As a teacher, I've always enjoyed YA fiction (being YA age X 4 myself ). When a friend recommended Sweet 15 by Emily Adler and Alex Echevarria, I at first I thought the plot would not hold me, but it was so cleverly crafted that I found myself really interested. However, as a writer, I find it helps if I already know what happens. When I first started reading mysteries, I didn’t enjoy rereading them once I knew Whodunit. Recently, I’ve been re-reading a lot of Agatha Christie. For me, that involves Agatha Christie, Rex Stout, and Dorothy Gilman (to name a few). So, what’s a mystery writer to do? I reread the masters. However, as a mystery lover, I do enjoy reading mysteries. Needless to say, my To-Be-Read pile is huge. Reading new books is a treat I allow myself as a reward when I’ve completed a book. Why? Partly, I don’t want to get ideas from other authors and inadvertently use them in my work in progress, but partly I don’t want to get wrapped up in a story that takes me away from my own stories (and deadlines). Jeffries or Victoria Thompson’s Gaslight Mystery Series, but I don’t read new authors or new books, no matter how enticing. Sometimes, I will allow myself to read the latest book in a long running series, like Emily Brightwell’s Inspector and Mrs. |
